Memorial for Forgotten Places
(2022)

Av Michael Schoorl

To possess something and abuse.
Thinking you have the right to posses or to abuse what you don’t possess.
Polish whatever seems distorted because being broken into seems like setting free.

Memorial for Forgotten Places is a site-specific public artwork that originated as a window grill and later transformed into a sculptural memorial. The recovered grill was subsequently reconfigured into a freestanding monument that commemorates the building’s full lifespan: its original industrial and educational function, its afterlife as an unregulated cultural space, and its erasure through demolition. Viewed from the perspective of the building rather than the institution, the sculpture reflects on how value is assigned to places, and how spaces outside systems of ownership, profit, and preservation are often left unprotected. Memorial for Forgotten Places positions these “forgotten” sites not as failures, but as active contributors to local culture, collective memory, and the ongoing reinvention of post-industrial towns.

Nyckelbiotop: Folkets hus Mustadfors i Dals Långed (2021-  pågående)

Av Eva-Johanna Isestig och Luka Jelusic

Based in the idea that creating physical manifestations in space is a powerful way of exploring possible futures, the predominant method was from start the use of quick prototyping: temporary spatial interventions coupled with various events aimed at gathering interest and ideas from, together with, and for the local people, and commonly evaluating these.

Förundran  - Synliggöra Mustadfors Folkets Hus entré (2024)

Av Anna Fagerström

This project aimed to make the entrance to Folkets hus Mustadfors visible through wonder. The Folkets hus Mustadfors (FHM) the people’s house, is a building for the local community of the small-town Dals Långed, before called Mustadfors, in Sweden. In the book Förundranseffekten, authors K. Sandberg and S. Hammarkrantz has concluded the research state on experiencing awe. It suggested that wonder makes people more present and empathetic, fostering a greater sense of connection with the world. This project aimed to create a deeper understanding of what wonder is and further explore how it can be applied in an architectural context, focusing on the FHM entrance. The goal was to make it feel welcoming, as it currently lacks intuitiveness and needs to be marked with torches for visitors to find their way. The design process has been marked by careful deliberations and choices, aiming both to evoke wonder and to show respect for the culturally significant FHM building.
